Well, I looked forward to this for a month. I never had the opportunity to go before because of plans. This was Notre Dame's 4th year doing this. The sale was Saturday, 7 til ? If you go before 9 am, it cost $5. to get in so my friend Jackie and I made plans to leave my house at 6 am. Previous years, people camped out to be first and this year they said no one stands in line before 5 am.

We get there about 6:45 and had to stand in one line to pay the $5. and get our hand stamped. They also sold maps for $1. We thought that was ridiculous. Jeepers. They are maiking enough as it is!

We go to find the end of the line as it winds arround this circular building. We walked and walked andit was indeed COLD. Finally, we see the end of the line about 3/4 around the building. We decided to go back to the beginning about 1/4 way in the line and mill around with other people standing on the sidewalk and benches. We discussed it and decided to cut in line when they opened the doors as we figured we woudl not be noticed in the crowd. Neither one of us had done this before. I felt like such a rebel.    It worked and we weren;t the only ones. (my bad?)

As we got inside the main entrance, we noticed a sign with lists of rooms and where things were....bikes (by the entrance) men's clothes, womens, clothes, electronics, luggage, household, carpet, furniture, office supplies, etc. The main thing I wanted was a mini dorm-size refrigerator. I was trying to decide if it woudl be located in furniture or household. They were in 2 different directions. I opted for household, got there and nothing! Went the opposite way to furniture and nothing! I'm thinking college kids have to have dorm fridges. Where are they?

Soon I saw people carrying them out, one had 2 of them stacked on a 2 wheel cart. I stopped him and asked where they were. He said ELECTRONICS! What? I'm thinking why the heck woudl they be in there. I saw electronics buit didn;t go in there thinkig it woudl be all  computers, stereos, speakers, DVD players and the like. Sure enough, I get in there and there is only a few left with peiople standing by and guarding them with their lives!!! Too late, I didn;t get one.

When I was in the household section the first time, they had a table of cups/mugs that were marked 4 for $3. I found 2 Startbucks mugs but one was chipped. I took the good one and went up to the check-out and she said it's $3. I said no, they are 4 for $3. so it woudl be 75¢. She said they couldn;t do that because prices are set. OKAY...I didn't take it.

I ended up with 2 large totes on whhels without lids for $3. each and a shoe organizer for $5.  Jackie bought rolling luggage and a set of adorably cute shabby chic lined baskets. By the time we left we were exhausted and felt like we had been in a mosh pit. OMG! It was crazy stupid!! Never again!

Afterwards we hit a few yard sales and bought a few things before going home.  I bought a set of 4 Mary Engelbreit tea bag holder, one was chipped, for 25¢. Then this morning at another yard sale, I found 2 more from the same set for 10¢ each. I was hoping that one of the was the chipped one but no, they are duplicates, but that's okay. I'll still sell them altogether.

Oh! The good part......after all that this morning and not getting a mini-fridge, I posted on Cheapcycle and Craigslist that I was looking for one and within 4 hours, I got a phone call and went to pick one up for $25.00, so it all worked out after all.  Smile
Glad you ended up finding a fridge after all that. So with the coffee mugs, do you know which ones are worthwhile to pick up? I saw some old-ish Cutty Sark mugs at an estate sale this weekend, they were asking $40 for the smaller one and $55 for the bigger one. They were both large oversized and I'm sure collectible, but that seemed like a lot to pay. I ended up just getting an old poster of things to do in Santa Cruz and an old cookbook. Sometimes its fun to make recipes from a really old one.
I really don't have the mugs/cups memorized but I do know that some Starbucks mugs are worth picking up and other times selling in a lot. If I find them cheap, I grab them. But $3.00 for one, to me, is not cheap unless I "KNOW" it's worth. I don't even remember what the pattern on it was.

Generally, I just look for FireKing cups.
My friend Amy taught me about Waechtersbach mugs.    She has found several in the past few weeks.  Mostly from Spain - but the W. Germany ones are the ones to really watch for as they are sought after a bit more.
