A long time ago - I believe it was the late 1970's - I was helping my mother with her garage sale. She had a lovely pressed glass pitcher for $12. A woman came to the sale and looked around, picked up the pitcher and started to walk away with it. I accosted her and said that if she wanted the pitcher she would have to pay $12. She looked crossly at me and said, "Why should I have to pay ANYTHING? It's obviously stuff you don't want anyway or it wouldn't be out here!" Needless to say that I retrieved the pitcher. I do think my mother eventually sold it.

Another time an older man stopped and seemed interested in some framed art prints. He indicated the ones he wanted, then insisted that they be wrapped up. He was very particular about the paper and twine used. I had to leave the sale to hunt in the house for the wrappings. He stood there all the time directing the wrapping. Finally when they were done to his satisfaction, I stood up and said, "That will be $20." He just started blankly for a few moments, then said, "Oh, I changed my mind. I guess I don't want them after all." and walked away. I'll tell you, if I had a rock in my hand at that moment....
Thanks for sharing your stories debodun. There can and will be some people at garage sales that just aren't all there!
I find most annoying are the people that stop and claim they don't have any money, then want you to hold something indefinitely for them until they can get the money. I have stopped doing this because 95% of the time they never return. One woman even gave me her phone number. Three weeks passed and she didn't return, so I called. She didn't even remember the sale or promising to buy anything. Now either she had the worst memory in the world, she changed her mind and didn't want to admit it, or gave me someone else's number (why I can't imagine).

On another occasion, a woman came by and saw some Depression glass. She said that she didn't have enough money to buy it, but if I wrapped it up and stopped by her house during the week, she would have the money to buy. I did go to the address she gave me, but when I exited my car, I was met by two very unfriendly people that threatened to call the police if I did not get off the property. I mentioned the woman's name, but they just reiterated the threat. When I got home, I phoned her and she said that since she lived in a privately controlled neighborhood, people that didn't live there weren't allowed in and she was sorry for any misunderstanding since she didn't know about that regulation.
Some pretty unusual stories, I'd say. Thanks for sharing.

That was very interesting story Debodun. Sometimes it is very hard for us to trust of people that we didn't know him well. Even though, they gave their contact number or phone number. We just need know them better before we get trust.
